The GOAT Retires (again)

If you’re like me, you probably woke up this morning to 17 different notifications from ESPN, the score, etc. letting you know that 7 time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady had announced his retirement once again. My gut reaction? Honestly, I don’t think anyone is surprised this time around. After the Cowboys handled the Bucs in the wild card round a few weeks ago, something about Tom’s presser seemed to support the idea that this might be the end of the road. Granted the guy is 45 years old, but he moves noticeably worse than Kirk Cousins in the pocket, and that’s saying something. When it’s time, it’s time, and Brady proved to himself this season that he didn’t leave anything on table by walking away.

Tom let the fans know with an emotional Instagram video, followed by a tribute of pictures to his friends, family, teammates and coaches.

“I’m retiring. For good.” See below:

There’s no doubt that 23 years of football at the highest level takes a toll on the body, even if you’re Tom Brady and the refs protect you like the Mona Lisa. 23 years of NFL football also takes a toll on your relationships with friends and family, in particular your relationship with your super model wife. This really makes you think, was one more mediocre season worth going through a divorce? For Tom, it was. It’s almost like he had to prove to himself that he wasn’t capable of winning another Super Bowl before he could hang up the cleats. Of course, we don’t know the extent of what truly caused Tom and Gisele to separate but you have to think football played a major role in it.

Like I eluded to already, Tom retired from the NFL once before. When you ask? Ironically, it was one year ago to the day. February 1st, 2022.

Weird right? (Insert random kid on twitter saying we’re living in a simulation). I’ll just leave it at that and let the people in the comments speculate.

Nonetheless, I tip my cap to Tom. What a career. He’s the goat, end of debate.
