Road to the Final Loon: Second Round

It was another round of surprises in the NCAA Tournament and none of the Loon Boys made it through unscathed. See who fell down the board and who moved into Postition A after the first weekend:

1. LoonBeast – 400 points

I said in the First Round blog that LoonBeast was primed to make a move up the board, and he did just that. He picked a perfect regional field in the West and only missed one team (Michigan instead of CSU) in the South. The other two regions weren’t great but whose were? Unfortunately, Beast took a huge hit when the fraudulent Auburn team, who he had in his Final Four, lost to Miami. This hurt his max points and means that someone else in now in the best spot…

T2. Intern Allen – 390 points

That’s right it’s me, baby, the intern. Thanks to that Auburn loss, I’m now the only Loon with both an intact final game and three out of four Final Four teams left. Give me a second while I put that accomplishment on my LinkedIn. Okay back to it. I didn’t have a perfect round; I had Richmond, Virginia Tech, LSU, and Davidson that didn’t even give themselves the chance to make the Sweet Sixteen like I said they would. Thankfully, the Tennessee, Auburn, and Wisconsin losses hurt other Loons more than me, and I’m only ten points back.

T2. Slim Loon – 390 points

Okay, again, Slim Loon picked a lot of first and second round games correctly, but nobody cares because he invested his bracket in a Kentucky team that crowds the paint like it’s 19fucking83. He did pretty well in the chalky West region, but his Midwest is completely dead. He will not get another point out of that quadrant. Slim doesn’t have a chance, we move.

4. LoonSchmidt – 370 points

After Round One, LoonSchmidt stood tall above the other Loons in the pond with the most points. Then he had a bad weekend. Tennessee was in Schmidt’s Final Four and got bounced, and big losers Wisconsin and Illinois were both in his Elite Eight. Over the weekend, he lost his lead, fell to fourth, and now has the second-lowest max point potential. He definitely has come back down to Earth.

5. LoonMagz – 350 points

LoonMagz didn’t have a terrible weekend, but it wasn’t good. He lost Elite Eight teams Tennessee and Wisconsin which hurt, but, more than anything he just didn’t pick a lot of games correctly. He got hurt by the upsets like everybody else, but also picked against Houston, Arkansas, and Providence. Magz isn’t out of this competition yet, but he kind of needs everything to go his way from here on out.

6. LoonMush – 340

Mush did one better than Magz in Round Two by picking Houston correctly, but he’s still feeling the effects of a tough First Round. Like Magz, he’s not out of it yet, but he’s got a lot of roadblocks ahead. Texas Tech beating Duke and Gonzaga would be huge for Mush and he’s the only one with them in the Final Four. He’ll need a Kansas championship too.
