Taking Over Torrey Pines

Recap: Called Tom Hoge to make the top 20 and he managed to finish second. Regardless, +400 put the Loon golf picks at even for week 1.

Torrey Pines is a famous golf course, quite possibly one of the more famous courses for Tiger Woods, not counting the Old Course and Augusta. Putting this stop on the West Coast swing pretty high on people’s lists both to watch and for players to participate in (sadly no Tiger this year). Torrey Pines is a great layout with oceanside views and 7,800 yards of toughness on the South Course. There is also a tournament in Dubai again this week to which I disavow. Focus over here on California and the greatness that is oceanside golf at Torrey.

The South Course at Torrey will be more significant this week as the final two rounds will be played there, with the first two rounds being split between the South and North course. One thing to keep in mind when choosing golfers this week is how they drive the ball. The South course is long, the fairways are hard to hit and given the proximity to the ocean I don’t have to mention that it can get windy. Look for guys that can manage their way around the course and find birdie opportunities when available. On a final note this tournament starts today, a Wednesday. I’m going to get right into the picks as many of you may be just realizing that picks have to be put in today. Time to take over Torrey.

Top 20 – Luke List +240. A strong driver of the golf ball and an overall strokes gained machine leading the PGA Tour with 1.926 right now tee to green. Kind of ridiculous to get him at this value after a T10 last year in this event.

Top 10 – Sam Burns +225. Burns has been great so far this year sitting 4th in the FedEx Cup standings. He also finished T18 here last year and has pretty good value to take advantage for a top 10.

Winner – Tony Finau +2800. Have to ride with Tony here. The guy drives the golf ball great and finished in second place here last year. Not to mention the fact he refuses to finish tournaments on Sunday and this one ends on a Saturday. Tony’s game tends to be pretty steady which also leads well into a quick turnaround.

Matchup – Back to the well with Tom Hoge over Jason Day at -112. Honestly not sure how this is a matchup. Hoge is on a tear and is going to beat Jason Day at this course. He is flat out currently the better player here.

Hope this gives everyone some quick insight into an early start on this Wednesday morning. Don’t be afraid to put Finau down for a top 10 as well, seek out the value, crack a cold one and enjoy some more springtime golf.
