A Totally Unbiased Take on Aaron Rodgers

When the word overrated comes up in sports, you might think of these headlines: “Jeter was carried by teams of all-stars”, “LeBron’s title in LA was a Mickey Mouse Championship”, “Michael Jordan’s opponents would be janitors and cops in today’s day and age”. I’m here to deliver you a new one: Aaron Rodgers is one of the most overrated athletes of all time. If you haven’t been paying close attention, you might think this is completely out of left field. However, as a lifelong Vikings fan, I’ve disliked Rodgers from his very first start. His cocky attitude, his huge ego, his haircut, you name it. He’s truly a pretty unlikable guy. Hell, even his own family hates him.

In 2005 on his draft night, the 49ers chose Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers. He was asked the question “How disappointed are you that you will not be a 49er?”. His Answer? “Not as disappointed as the 49ers will be that they didn’t draft me”. Since then, the Packers are 0-4 against the 49ers in the playoffs. Are the 49ers his kryptonite? Erin Rodgers looked absolutely pedestrian after the Packers scored on their first drive. This Packers team was one of the most loaded teams we’ve seen in the recent years of the NFL, and they didn’t even make it out of their first playoff game after their bye week.

On the surface you’ll see his accolades. 10 time pro bowler, 4 time all pro, 3 time MVP. However, as it concerns his legacy, there’s only one stat that really matters for a QB. He’s only won one Super Bowl, and it’s been over a decade since his last one. Also, his playoff record is 10-11, absolutely pitiful for a future Hall of Fame QB. With all the success the Packers have had, people gloss over the fact they’ve had 30 years of Hall of Fame QB play, and only 2 championships in that span. It goes to show, Rodgers only really cares about his own accolades, and he’s not a team player. The lack of championships severely hurts his legacy when you look at the QB greats.

Where does Rodgers go from here? Davante Adams is a free agent, lots of big time players contracts are up, and the salary cap is an issue for them as they will likely be more than $40 million over the salary cap heading into next season. Karen Rodgers was a total drama queen during the 2021 offseason, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds this off-season. I personally hope he goes to Denver, so Mahomes can beat up on him twice a year. I don’t know where he’ll play, or if he’ll play next season, but I know he doesn’t have a shot to win anything this season (pun intended). As Jimmy G said to Robbie Gould after the game winning kick “You’re a legend, fuck the Packers”. I couldn’t agree more.
